Songs That Stab Me in the Heart: “Sometimes” by Depeche Mode

Since Monday was Martin Gore’s birthday, we’ll start with this one.

I first heard this song in college. It stabbed me in the heart, instantly. From the opening note. I used to think of it as an expression of apology, but listening to it earlier, it meant something else. A leveling of sorts. A realization everybody else is wonderfully flawed, too. I think every teen should hear this song.
