Today when Stewart called me to check in he told me he’s not feeling well. I told him he’s not allowed to be sick. I wasn’t kidding. I told him “get thee to a drugstore, toot sweet.” He got some Airborne, but I fear that’s not the trick. Please, everyone send him some good health vibes. I need my backup back!
Kyle slept in this morning until 7:45 – an unprecedented late morning at this age. He was coughing a bit last night, but I dosed him with Pediacare and that seemed to have actually worked. Because of the late start, I was late leaving the house (duh). I had dressed in nice linen pants and one of my tried and true Land’s End No Iron shirts (bright green!) but by the time I got in the car I had sticky cereal on my lapel, a black smudge on my pants, and I had knocked my hair clip out of place while bending over to buckle Kyle into his carseat. Sigh.
I experimented with NOT slacking off at work. Turns out, if I don’t check my blogroll as my first act of the day, I get a lot of work done by 11AM. What do people DO at work if they can’t surf the net? Yeah, I get it. They work. I’ll be screwed if I come up against a real deadline. Actually, late in the day we all got an email from my boss. She had gotten notes from the network that require some major work from us. We were all freaked out by the end of the day. Hey, it’s art. It takes heartbreak sometimes. I hope you can tell I’m kidding.
Yikes, I can’t write well right now. My iPod is currently running a Spanish lesson. Let me fix that. Okay, now it’s on Level 42 – Something About You. Don’t you LOVE that song? Brings me back to when I was 14 and had a crush on someone named Mace. I always liked guys with something “off” about them.
Anyway. My day. I’m pretty fried right now, as you can see. I made it to DayLady’s house (thanks for the nickname Kristina!) by 5:45 and scooped up the rascal. He was in a good mood, and as I held him in my arms he lurched toward my car. For a kid who can’t talk, he’s good at communicating. He does say things like “up” and “all done,” which comes out like “ah dggg” but I know he’s trying to say it.
I received the Breathable Bumper in the mail today. After dinner…Kyle’s dinner…I spent a lot of time putting it on the crib. It doesn’t fit exactly right because Kyle’s crib has very wide corner posts, but it seems like it will work. Check back later to see results.
I took so much time dealing with the bumper (as Kyle followed me, detaching the velcro as soon as I attached it) that bathtime was a bit late, and I didn’t put Kyle down to sleep until 8:15. I hope that small deviation doesn’t come back to bite me you know where!
Whew. After THAT, I took out the diaper trash bag, let the dog out to poop, and fixed myself some dinner. Yummy spaghetti squash with sauteed tomatoes, onions, and peppers. You guys, it’s SO GOOD and so easy to make.
Now I’m going to get myself an ice cream bar, put my feet up, and watch “The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman” on IFC. It’s a sitcom that my friend’s husband co-wrote. Two degrees of separation from someone who got a show on the air. Not bad. If any of you happen to catch this show, let me know what you think.
And yeah, thanks for the “compliments” on my shooter photo!

My prayers for a healthy Stew. It sounds like you are handling things pretty well.
Definitely sending healthy Stew vibes his way! I am still amazed that after a day, you still manage to take out the trash, fix your own dinner, take care of the dog AND still stay awake long enough to watch a show. Where does all the energy come from!?!?
Lisa, too much coffee, I guess.
You’re doing great! Hope the breathable bumper works. And I totally know how you feel: Stewart is not allowed to be sick.
Zoe says “Ah deee” for all done, too! She now has 2 “words”: Apple (AAA-ggguh) and “All done” (see previous).
I think I gained 5 million pounds this week at my mom’s beach house. Photos & stories to come.
PS LOVE the shot photo. Are you coming to CT soon?
