Shut ‘Er Down!

February 15, 2008 Kim Tracy Prince 2 Comments

I remember how much I hated teething last time. This time is no better. It doesn’t matter that I have experience dealing with it. It’s Brady who has no experience dealing with it, and even if he did, it still sucks every time.

The teething, along with the stomach bug that has been flying around our house, along with Brady being in daycare for two days and me not pumping, seems to have turn off the milkworks in the mama. I’m only 50% upset about this. I had planned to nurse him until 1 year, but the pumping at work totally sucks. As such, I have not done it since the first day. Also, as I’ve said before, Brady is pretty solid, and he only has two months left until he switches to cow’s milk anyway…so…

The other 50% is sad that it seems to be happening beyond my control. I wasn’t completely ready, emotionally, to stop. Also, I still love the convenience of nursing vs. preparing bottles of formula. As such, I downed a couple of fenugreek capsules (aka totally disgusting pills) and I’m drinking a ton of water and pumping when Brady refuses to nurse because the cans are empty.

It does break my heart a little to watch him eagerly come to the breast only to be thwarted. Then I just get mad when he retaliates by chomping down with his tiny razor-sharp bottom teeth, and his nubbly fang. Ouch. No wonder my boobs are retreating.

I am sure it is just a temporary thing. You can easily get your production back up by pumping extra, just like you’re doing. But I agree, pumping is a total drag. Which reminds me, I have to pump…

If you’re really averse to formula, goat’s milk might work for the little guy. Fenugreek definitely worked for my wife, hopefully it will work for you, too.
