I’ve been taking the Costco brand 4X Pro-B probiotics supplement for over a month now as part of the #digestivecare campaign. As I mentioned in my previous post, I have indeed noticed that my body is operating a little bit more regularly, especially when I keep a regular schedule and put healthy food into it. But you know me. I can’t stay calm for long. I say “yes” too often and jam my days up with lots of things to do that I didn’t have time for in the first place. That kind of frantic pace does not leave a lot of time for meal planning or healthy snacking or even adequate exercise.
Once all of those positive things fall by the wayside, my brain gets overloaded and even the nifty little day-stamped packages of supplement pills included in the 4X Pro-B box are not enough to make me remember to take the pill every day. In the last 2 weeks I’ve missed three days! I could not find any information about what to do if you skip a dose: double up the next day? Just skip it? So I chose to skip it. Better to be safe than sorry.
It hasn’t made a difference, though, so I am not alarmed. Still, my inner perfectionist mutters an “Aw, dammit!” every time she reaches into the box and sees that the previous day’s pill is still there, waiting.
The mere act of taking 4X Pro-B (almost) every day is enough to remind me, however, that I am trying to be more healthy. After years of knowing it existed, I finally bought some kefir. The idea of a milky substance mixed with fruit flavor kind of grossed me out so I picked vanilla.
It kind of tastes like sour yogurt, but it’s runny, not solid. I poured it over fruit so it can be extra healthy. Not bad.
The other thing I am actively doing is making sure I get enough exercise. I noticed over the weekend, when I was super busy and then the time changed, stealing an hour from my already too-short day, that since I skipped my morning walks, I was cranky and out of sorts physically. I am 40 years old. There is no time for messing around. So I have to MAKE time for at least a minimal amount of exercise. No more excuses, no more sleeping in.
Rats.
But! To be healthy and not clutching my tummy all the time I also have to get enough sleep. Sigh. It’s enough to make my brain hurt…which stresses me out and causes stomach upset.
Good thing there’s a Costco. Refinance your mortgage, buy a car, FIX a car, get a bridal gown, replace your floors. And tend to your digestive health. Amazing.

Pretending to be a mom to girls? I love it. You can borrow mine for a day if you like. I don’t want to trade, though!
Hi Kim, I just wanted to tell you Christina became a Vegan in October of 2010 and has not had any issues with her stomach since then.
I hate it when people suggest this to me so please ignore if you feel the same, but have you considered taking wheat and dairy out of your diet? I just know a few people who swear by that. It’s definitely a huge sacrifice but who knows?
By the way, I’ve discovered that getting older means three things if you want to maintain a healthy weight – eat less, exercise more and sleep better. All things that are just plain hard! Not to mention unfair. Good luck!
Vegan, and no wheat or dairy? What DO you eat, then?
Actually, when I was really suffering the IBS, dairy was a no-no. Switching to soy milk helped a lot.
Thanks!
Hi Kim, thanks so much for popping over to my blog. You have a very nice site here. Keep up the good work with your health!
