This is our DVD and VHS collections. Every few months I swear I’m going to organize it and stack it in such a way that you can actually see what we have. But I wind up dumping stuff in there to get it out of the way when people come over.
The problem is, this is just the plain, boxy cabinet under the TV. I haven’t seen any product yet that strikes me as perfect to put in there to organize this stuff. Do you any of you know of one? Keep in mind I want to keep these items in that cabinet.
Anyone? Mom Underground? Bueller?
Get rid of the DVD cases and put the little flyers and the discs into one of those nifty DVD binders. Once we did that we had a ton more space in our boxy cabinet. I have no suggestion for the tapes though….we got rid of the VCR after a thunderstorm fried it and donated the tapes to Goodwill.
That mission organization show uses those nifty wire crates. I would also suggest checking out lockeer organizers you can stack. Just a thought.
I do the dvd in the envelope thing also and let jackson play with the cases (kept on a bookshelf that he has to “ean-up, ean-up everbodee” before he can watch “queen” “dodabldr” “blues clues” or wiggles.

I don’t think it matters… I have a neat drawer under the TV in the playroom that is configured for DVDs and videos (IKEA) but it is still always a cluttered disorganized mess. My only suggestion would be to lock it so the kids can’t get in.
Too bad there’s not another shelf in there – that would help a lot. I use cheap baskets I found at IKEA that are exactly the right size for DVDs. I can sort the contents that way, too – one for kids movies, one for adults, etc. I always find good organizer things at IKEA – do you have one near you? You could always look online if not.
I’ve given up in the DVD department. I had to hide our collection in our closet because little hands kept finding them, taking them out of the cases, ripping up the paperage and leaving smudges and scratches behind. Organize all you want, but I suggest a big ol’ LOCK on the cabinet. It’s only a matter of time … 🙂

Ummm….not to sound dense, but can you just stack them in a way so that all the titles face outwards? Easy and free. That’s what I did when we first moved into our house, although at that point all of our money was going towards big expensive things like, oh, a new kitchen, so organizational things just went by the wayside!
