Motherhood is the Necessity of Invention

February 8, 2007 Kim Tracy Prince 6 Comments

See that shelf on my body in the picture below? The one that juts out just below my breasts? The one I said I can balance beverages on?

I think I need to invent a Belly Bib. Far too many of my cute maternity tops now have faint stains on them from food or beverages that I’ve spilled on myself. Right on top of the belly, in a place that’s so obvious that it’s hard to hide. And it’s not like I can tuck my shirt in anymore. Ha ha! Would THAT look hilarious?

Maybe something in a fabricky paper, a band that drapes over the belly while a pregnant woman eats. It’ll catch those drips of fruit, ketchup, runaway milkshake that you almost snort out your nose because you’re laughing so hard, etc. I know it would help if I stopped eating and drinking while in the car, because it seems that’s when I drop the most food.

This line of product would also include the Breastfed Baby Head Shield – something you drape over your infant’s head when you are eating lunch and nursing at the same time. I can’t tell you how much food got dropped in Kyle’s hair in those early days. At least he didn’t notice. Now when I’m eating something, I never get to finish my own meal. He’ll try to climb up into my lap, plaintively asking “Some? Some? Some?” until I give him a bite. Or two, or seven. Hmm, if only I could invent invisible chocolate.

Ha ha, I could have totally used the breastfed baby head shield. Seriously, that is a great idea.

The double paper towel seemed to work for my belly shield, but Jackson did end up with pepperoni pizza on his head one day I remember distinctly.
Jacks and I usually eat at the same time, BUT he constantly monitors my plate to (1) make sure I don’t have something he doesn’t; and (2) carefully detect as soon as something is “au gone”.
I totally get you about sneaking chocolate, cookies, drinks.

So funny! The worst was when I was eating ice cream and dropped it on my son’s head. The cold shocked him so much he pulled back without letting go….OUCH! The Breastfed Baby Head Shield would have been so useful on that day:)

I think both sound like great inventions! I’d buy ’em!
