The Secret of Christmas Shopping

December 6, 2006 Kim Tracy Prince 6 Comments

I have discovered that doing one errand a day before heading to work is the secret to keeping my sanity and getting all of my shopping done. With the exception of a fun-filled trip to the mall on Saturday (haha), I have been hitting one store a day this week on my way to work. The parking lots are empty and the store aisles are clear at 9AM on a weekday. Store employees say “good morning” and smile, and if I have a question there is usually someone who is willing to leave their station and show me the answer. It’s delightful, in fact. I am also much more energetic and sunshiny in the morning than I would be on my lunch break or God forbid after work.

Speaking of sunshiny, (does anyone want to comment on how annoying Julia Roberts and her perfect life have become? She described her husband as “the shiniest person ” she’s ever met when on Oprah last week) on a recent morning I awoke to the sounds of my child standing in his crib, clutching Little Bunny and hollering “MORNING! MORNING!” in a sing-songy voice that exactly matches my mother’s.

I hate Julia Roberts. She’s not beautiful, she’s not nice and she’s not that talented. I’m using the word “hate” here! LOL
As I was reading that part about Kyle saying “good morning” I was thinking “oh how cute”. Then you said “… in a sing-songy voice that exactly matches my mother’s”
Now, I’m sure that’s not as frightening for you as it would be for other people … Like ME! hahaha

You’re right Jay, it wasn’t frightening at all. It was ADORABLE, especially since my mother had just been here for a few days for Thanksgiving. I failed to set the scene correctly!

I wish that famous people would just tell the truth about what their lives are really like. Then we would all feel better and not hate them so much. We would just hate them a little 😛

When I used to work 3rd shift, I did all my shopping as soon as the stores opened in the morning on weekdays. Glorious to have an entire empty store to yourself. Now I’m stuck with crazy weeekends!

I wish I could hear his MORNING! (normally I just get MOMMMYYYY MOMMMMYYY, which is pretty good too).
I have more comments but I sent them to your gmail.

My secret for Christmas shopping? Do it all online. I HATE braving the crowds. I get tempted to play bumper cars with my SUV every time I enter the mall parking lot.
