This song came up on my “Imogen Heap” channel on Pandora. I was cleaning the kitchen/supervising the kids and it was just a regular moment. But it stopped me in my tracks.
It’s probably a disturbing thing that this song that is supposed to be cheerful! and happy! and looking forward to the day! made me totally depressed. But I think it’s because the music and Priscilla Ahn‘s voice are only cheerful on the surface. If you pay attention, you will see that there is something a little bit off about it. Like a scene in a horror film, where from far away you think you’re looking at a beautiful bouquet of flowers but as you get closer you see that the edges of the flowers are wilted, and when you get even closer you realize that in fact they are long dead and covered with scary bugs.
