Stop, Drop, and Namaste

October 13, 2008 Kim Tracy Prince 6 Comments

So, the valley is on fire (again) and the smoke is thick in the air but no worries! We are miles away from any actual fire. It’s just that we can’t breathe, exactly. Still, I left the house and braved the open air for the 3.4 seconds it takes to walk to my car and drive to the gym for yoga class. On my way up the road I saw the flames in the distance. I couldn’t believe that other people were driving straight towards them, people going about their business, acting like nothing was happening. Just like I was.

We have friends at church who live in the Porter Ranch neighborhood seen during the initial reports of the Sesnon fire this morning. I haven’t heard from them but I am quite sure they have had to evacuate. Their neighborhood was constructed within updated fire regulations but still the palm trees and shrubbery in some backyards were clearly on fire this afternoon.

I couldn’t shake the glowing line of fire from my mind’s eye during my practice tonight. As I bowed my head in gratitude for the hour of reflection and exercise, I prayed a little bit for the people who had to leave their homes behind, especially those with young children who might be scared. Good luck to you, friends.

Man, that stinks. (no pun intended.)
We will keep them in our prayers.

Wow so scary! We had a fire nearby earlier in the summer. Heath took some video: http://hirschionline.blogspot.com/2008/06/wildfire-next-door.html
It really is crazy how for most people it is just business as usual. I will keep your friends who have been affected by the fire in my prayers too. Hugs! –b

Scary. Glad you are okay and sorry for those who are not. The title of your post… the fire fighters brought their truck to my daughter’s pre-school yesterday and so she had been all about the “stop drop and roll”…

The title is funny. The fires, not so much. The yearly drama repeats itself, again

I can’t imagine packing up as much of your belongings as you can and driving away from your home, not knowing if it will be there when you are allowed to return….my prayers are certainly with them!

Good. I wonder about you every time I see something on the news.
