It’s crazy how young the bullying starts. 🙁 We’ve already been through lots of tears and Hannah is just finishing 2nd grade. However, I am so proud of her that she has a heart of gold. There was a time that I just had enough of this one “friend” and her meanness. I racked my brain to come up with a good teachable parent moment and found myself telling Hannah a good comeback. Well, she immediately told me that she wouldn’t feel good about herself saying that to her “friend” because it’s not how she would want to be treated. Wow! Put me in my place! I guess all the love, hugs and motherly words I have given her have hit home with her. We can’t control other people’s actions, but I’m so proud of her that she is starting to stand up for herself while having the compassion to know what is right and what is wrong. For other moms out there…my daughter loves American Girl. They have a series of growing up books. Two of them are “Friendship Troubles” and “The Smart Girl’s Guide In Knowing What To Say.” They have been really helpful to both of us! You may want to check it out for some helpful advice. We just have to keep on loving our kids and keep on reminding them (and US) of that “Golden Rule.” Thanks for sharing this Kim!
Good grief, what an eye opening experience. Made my stomach turn reading the top one.
