Request for stories

September 27, 2005 Kim Tracy Prince 18 Comments

Okay internet moms, I need you to share with me some stories about your child’s teething periods. Kyle is NOT HAPPY, although he is so cute even when screaming. What the heck do I do? Ice pacifies him for a little while, but he doesn’t like the cold or even frozen washcloth. He liked one teether but I left it at a friend’s house. Nice, mama. I tried baby Tylenol last night but that didn’t really work. He wakes up every hour or two until about 3am and then he will sleep until 6:30 or 7.

I’m pooped. Stew pats me on the arm and says “Kyle is so lucky to have a good mom.” And then he rolls over and goes back to sleep.

Poor guy. Poor you. Have you tried Baby Orajel? Is he okay during the day but seems to “remember” it hurts at night when there’s less going on?
The good news is that it only hurts as the tooth pushes right through the gum. If you can see it, I’d think the end should be in sight, unless he’s getting more somewhere.

Poor baby, poor tired mama. Got some Southern Comfort in the house? Rub it on his gums.
    Pics please!

Teething is hell. For everyone. A few months ago Juliette pushed out her 2 year molars, and I posted something about it- (follow the homepage link to get to that post) . I kept her doped on Tylenol, alternating with Motrin, and that barely helped. Nothing really helped, actually, and it didn’t get better until they finally broke through her gums. Sorry I can’t be more optimistic!

Tylenol before bed and gum massage with Mom’s finger soothed some discomfort for my guy. Also he prefers chewing on a cloth diaper to a pacifier.
Good luck and good rest to you!!

Once he is 6 months old you can give him Motrin instead of Tylenol… it works better and lasts longer. I’ve been known to give Motrin + Benadryl at bedtime when I am really desperate for some sleep (thought benadryl is for allergies, the side effect is sleepiness).
