When I first moved to Los Angeles my roommate and sister-friend, Auntie Lisa, brought me to a Kings hockey game wherever it was they played back then. It wasn’t the ginormous Staples Center, because that didn’t exist. I remember only:
-how violent the players were toward each other
-that it was very loud
-being very cold.
Fast forward to now, and due to my affiliation with Huggies’ Every Little Bottom program and its offshoot, Hockey For Huggies, I was given a ticket to attend the Kings vs. Avalanche game at Staples Center a few weekends ago. This was the last stop in the HFH tour, which contracted a team of young – oh, so young – marketing professionals to travel to hockey arenas, collecting diapers and engaging hockey fans in games and conversation about diaper need. At this Los Angeles game, the scrappy, perky, tireless crew was joined by myself and Caroline Kunitz of LA Diaper Drive, the beneficiary of the day’s collection.
This was no ordinary diaper drive. First of all, I had to go downtown. This required days of background noise in my brain that wondered “How do I get to Staples Center? Will there be horrible traffic? Where will I park?” Also, nobody goes to hockey games in Los Angeles, right?
Right?
I was pretty blown away by how awesome the hockey fans were. People sauntered by our table, flicking bills into the cash box, hauling boxes of diapers, entering our Plinko contest for Kings swag. A guy with no arms gave me a $100 bill and asked for change. Nervous about not staring at the place where his arms should have been, I blathered on about diaper need and how his donation would help lots of babies and thank you so much and would you like to play our Plinko game? Because I didn’t want to call attention to his armlessness by shutting him out of Plinko.
You can’t take me anywhere.
Here is a photo recapturing of the day. I take a lot of pictures now, because I have a half-hearted intention to build my own stock photo library so I don’t have to go trolling through the internet for pictures of trees, or little girls holding hands, or The Staples Center. Enjoy.

You’re a diaper rock star.
FYI The Kings use to play at The Great Western Forum, as did the Lakers.
