Happiness is a Sleeping Baby

February 16, 2006 Kim Tracy Prince Leave a Comment

Today is one of those days on which I feel accomplished yet useless. Here’s how it went:

-Kyle slept in bed with us because at 2AM he suddenly lost his ability to sleep alone.
-The little jumping bean finally woke at 6:30 for his bottle. Daddy made it for him and brought him breakfast in (my) bed.
-Daddy took the bean out to the living room to play and watch Sesame Street.
-I got out of bed at 7:45, after drinking my coffee and reading an article about intelligent design in a December issue of The New Yorker.
-Fed breakfast to Kyle, said goodbye to Stewart, put Kyle down for morning nap.
-Checked email/blogs/etc. Took a shower. Kyle woke up from nap, thus concluding a Typical Morning.
-Left the house at 10:40 am. Stopped at gas station, where everyone in the valley was jockeying for position because the gas was only $2.47/gallon.
-Met with director of short film I am producing at the Coffee Bean where I enjoyed a medium decaf cafe mocha with soy. MMMMMM. Kyle sat happily in his highchair and enjoyed Earth’s Best Mixed Cereal with Gerber strained pears. mmmmm.
-Discussed short film and what to do next. Since I’ve never produced a film I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. (Note to self, don’t tell any of our future investors about this site or they’ll figure it OUT.)
-Drove to Hollywood to meet with friend/co-producer of video we made about Stewart’s job.
-Changed Kyle’s diaper twice in 10 minutes. Ugly poo-poo is still coming out of him at a frightening rate.
-Friend gives me an almost-locked copy of the video. We will be paid shortly. Hooray!
-Drove back to the valley. Ten minutes from home, Kyle fell asleep.
-Put Kyle into crib and commenced the up-down-up-down struggle. Because now, if he doesn’t want to take a nap, he doesn’t just lay there and cry himself to sleep. He pops right up into a standing position and gnaws on the edge of his crib while wailing.
-TWO HOURS LATER, I am still patiently urging Kyle to take his nap. If this lasts much longer, I am going to have to give up on his nap and he;ll have to go to bed early, thus perpetuating the evil cycle he started last night. I could have done many things with the past two hours. We could have taken a walk. We could have gone to the gym (more on that later). We could have had educational, unstructured play time. we could have run the 2 errands I keep pushing off because every time I think of doing them, Kyle is falling asleep in the carseat.

ARGH!!!!!
