Help a Mother’s Day Out

It’s been a while since I asked you for help. I mean, really.

I ask you to read this blog and click stuff, sometimes. I ask you to watch videos. I ask you to tweet and pin and share on Facebook, sometimes. I have even asked you to pray for me.

But I don’t do that often. And this time I’m not asking for me.

I’m asking for those desperate mothers and fathers who simply cannot make their money grow on trees no matter how hard they work. The ones who run out of money before their kids are fed or clothed or sent to school or properly diapered.

I’ve been working with Help a Mother Out since 2009 and dammit, this problem is still not fixed. It’s a huge problem. There are places and people that help but there are not enough of them. Yet.

So.

Help a Mother Out is now holding its annual Mother’s Day fundraising drive to generate the funds and the diapers to help families who cannot afford an adequate supply to keep their babies clean and healthy. We are gratefully accepting donations, encouraging people to share the news, and urging you to start diaper drives in your own communities.

We are participating in a Twitter party Wednesday, April 18 at 10AM. There will be pleas for help, and also prizes if you RSVP. Here is all the information. The wonderful band of sisters at MomsLA.com and Spanglish Baby will be hosting. An anonymous donor will match all gifts made tomorrow up to $1,000. This idea came out of a meeting of the brand-spanking-new Help a Mother Out LA Advisory Council – a group of amazing women who have agreed to support our efforts here in the LA area.

Because clearly, I can’t do it alone. I’ve barely made a dent just wandering around yakking about diaper need when I can shove this task into my schedule. Even if all I ever did was work on this cause, I’m just one person. I need them, and I need you. The babies need you.

If you make a gift in honor of a special mother in your life, you can have a lovely gift card (paper or e-mail) sent to her to let her know. Just $20 can diaper a baby for week or more. The difference you can make in the lives of children is huge.
