Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead…and No One Cares

June 8, 2006 Kim Tracy Prince 7 Comments

So here’s the reason for the little storm cloud over my head this morning. When I turned on my car and drove away from my house, I heard a quit snippet of news: Al Zarqawi (I’m sure I spelled that wrong – I’d look it up but this dinosaur of lame-ass Mac is really slow and I have no patience for it) was killed in a Special Forces raid last night or this morning. I was so excited that I called Stewart to tell him because I didn’t think he’d have a chance to listen to the news before going to school. He was happy. “I’m gonna go get drunk!” Then I turned back to the radio to hear the details. Certain that this item would be News Story #1 on every station, I switched on a variety of them. I got increasingly impatient listen to promos for the movie “Cars” and then I became incredulous when I could not find any station talking about the story besides NPR, which was stuck on “analysis” and “what this means” and “ironically, this event comes at a time when Bush’s ratings are at an all time low.”

You probably know that I am no Bush supporter, and for the love of all things good am I certainly not pro-war. But I have read about Terrorist #1 and he seems like a bad dude, indeed. I’m not sure how I feel talking about this stuff on my blog, which is usually light and happy (except for my Death Post, which I’d link to here but see above regarding this crappy Mac). I know that I have a certain opinion about terrorists and their ethnic background, and I know that not everyone shares my opinion. But I will say here that from what I’ve read and heard, there seemed to be no other way to deal with someone like Zarqawi besides eliminating him. A fair trial he did not deserve.

So I was very happy to hear about his demise. I take it as a victory for good people everywhere, not just for the American troops or Bush or Donald Rumsfeld. And I was dismayed and eventually furious that I could not find more about it on the radio. All the radio wants to do is knock it down, and focus on Brad and Angelina’s baby instead. You’d think that they were the first people in the world to have a baby.

Grrr…arrgh…fester.

It is those people that give Ann Coulter reason to spew venom. All over the TV today.

    A few things…
    1. It’s hard for me to be excited about someone being dead, because you know what? There are still a whole bunch of kids over there fighting a war I don’t necessarily agree with. Yes, it’s good they caught a bad guy, for sure. I don’t really care that they killed him, to be honest. It doesn’t bother me. The war on terror and the war in Iraq have become the SAME THING, and… well, whatever. It’s getting me all fired up. Point is, great! He’s caught! Dead! But these bastards are like cockroaches… you kill one, and ten show up to replace him. There’s still such a long battle, and I worry that conservatives will use this small victory as a diversion. But hey, I guess any victory in Iraq should be seen as a big one, because they are few and far between. My question is to the Bush administration is, okay, what’s next? Congratulations, you killed him, but what happens next? When are we getting out of there? What’s the plan?
Oh… there is no plan? What’s that? Too busy voting on the Gay Marriage Ban?
    Bitchin’.
    2. Brad and Angelina’s baby IS really cute.
    3. Just because you have an old Mac doesn’t mean all Macs are bad!! I have a new Mac here at work and I heart it. I also have a 2 year old Mac at home and I heart it.
    That is all.

I listen to NPR driving to and from work and also heard the news this morning. My opinion: while it is good we got rid of one big, bad terrorist there will undoubtedly be others to take his place (not that I think this means we ought to give up and not attempt to get rid of them) … and, also not a lover of Bush myself, I figure he will be QUITE QUICK to take credit for this… and he is QUITE SLOW to take blame for things he does wrong. Glad we’re soon to be rid of him.

I couldn’t agree with you more Kim. I saw the news on the internet and decided to actually try to watch some news the other night, but what did I see but the dad of the American Zarqawi beheaded saying that the guy didn’t deserve to die. Are you kidding me? Enough this is too political for your blog
    Love ya

You know, I found it so interesting that the news of The Evil One’s death was so down played by politicians. It was like, Ok good but still so much work to be done, blah blah blah. Yes, that’s true, but how about a big HooRah for the soldiers?!! Geez, let them have something to celebrate for the love of dog, they’re dying every day.

I’m with you. Why can’t the media give us one freakin’ victory to celebrate, why do they have to rain on our parade?

Having been completely unable to update you blog from my other computer, this will be exceedingly late.
I will not jump into the arena of debate over Iraq other than this: Many friends and coworkers in the fire and EMS profession join the National Guard or the Reserves to supplement their income, and many of them are too smart not to end up in positions which are “vital” to the war effort. While I honor their individual contributions to something they have no political control over, I desperately want them to come home as soon as possible, because not all of them have come home safely.
But what I REALLY wanted to comment on was news in general. I woke up one morning, firing up my computer, which gives the headlines in a nutshell, and the first thing was that possible evidence of fossilized bacteria had been found on Mars.
    Holeeeeeeee shiitske mushrooms.
My mind reeled. Life on other planets. It ends so many debates. Think of the political and religious conversations that needed to be started. What life was there? Why did it fail? If it can happen there, where else can it be? I switched on the television and radio waiting for an all day newsfest and guess what I heard all day long…
    Britney’s gonna have a f—ing baby.
