PayPal Is Fake Money

November 8, 2012 Kim Tracy Prince 2 Comments

I’ve been using PayPal for many years now. I guess many is probably…five? Six years? How long has it been around? I suppose I started using it for eBay purchases, and then to receive money for things I eventually sold online.

After several years of working primarily for online publications and clients who do promotions with web tools, I have gotten used to being paid for my work via PayPal. Also, PayPal affords me an easy way to send and receive money when I have to contribute to a gift or group travel – no need to send a check in the mail when you can punch a few numbers in, enter an email, and boom, instant payback.

The trouble is, since I haven’t hooked PayPal up to my desktop banking software (I don’t even know if you can do that), I forget about that account. Unless I’m expecting a really big payment, I tend to get distracted by other shiny things and simply forget that the money exists.

Until…

When I discover that a web store or charity accepts PayPal in addition to credit cards, I click over to my account and looky here! Money!

So I’ve started to refer to my PayPal money as “fake money.” Even though I worked hard to earn it, spending it doesn’t hurt at all – just the little sting at the beginning when you get the numbing shot.

So tonight I was happy to make a donation with my fake money to my pal Beth’s fundraiser for the Kawasaki Disease Foundation. She is hoping to raise $1500 and sponsor a table at the foundation’s gala event on November 17. She handily stuck a PayPal donate button right at the bottom of her post. If you have some fake money laying around in your PayPal account, consider donating it to this worthy cause.
