I can’t listen to any Iron & Wine songs without getting very still and contemplative, and there are many that make me misty. Somehow I stumbled on this cover of “Naked As We Came” by some girl a few years ago.
Huh. That “some girl” was featured in a video on McDonald’s in-house TV network and I caught it out of the corner of my eye. (Yes I was at McDonald’s recently. Shut up.) Turns out she has about 8 bazillion YouTube covers and her own album because she’s great and that’s what the kids are listening to and whatever.
Whatever. I just like it, and her lovely voice and these lyrics slay me. The original, of course, is equally as treacherous. I dare you to listen without crying.
She says “If I leave before you, darling
Don’t you waste me in the ground”
I lay smiling like our sleeping children
One of use will die inside these arms

*Sniff* I have no idea what you’re talking about. This isn’t touching AT ALL. *sob*
Right?!
