Today Kyle is 20 months old. Twenty. That’s not a span of time that gets a lot of attention. But the number boggles my mind. He has been outside of me for 20 months! How did that happen?
He is growing into an affectionate, clever, outspoken little boy. His favorite thing in the world is Little Bunny, without whom he will not go to sleep, and whom he will drag around the house after waking up. He loves the moon, and spots it everywhere, declaring “moon! moon!” in his tiny little voice. Just now he came into the office with Daddy’s hat, showing me the moon logo on it.
Kyle can count to ten in a combination of English and Kylish. “one, two, free, fo, eye, seh, seh, eight, nine, BLEAH!!!” He can identify certain written letters and numbers, the easiest for him being the letter Y. He calls us “Mah-ee” and “Dah-ee.” He calls his Grampa “Arrr!” because Grampa taught him how to roar.
He still loves drawing outside with chalk. He likes to run down the sidewalk and stop and pick up leaves. He points out cars and airplanes. He loves being chased, but he doesn’t make himself hard to catch.
I say he is affectionate because he is always ready to give me a kiss or a hug, and he often climbs up onto my lap to snuggle. He will wrap his entire body around his Daddy’s legs. He hates it when Daddy leaves the house without him.
He is not without his willful side. Lately he has been deliberately throwing things: his sippy cup, food, toys, etc. All while staring me in the face, daring me to do something about it. So last week I started up the time-out. I have a zero tolerance policy for the deliberate throwing of things. When he launches something, he goes into his crib for a minute and a half. So far I’ve done this twice, and he seems to understand why. When we go back to the thrown item, he picks it up and puts it down “nice.”
He can identify most parts of his body, and he enjoys showing off his belly. He also enjoys showing off MY belly. I try to explain to him that his little brother is in there, but I don’t think he understands, although he will pet my belly and say “nice, nice.”
Kyle will be a big brother, and he will turn two in four months. Four months. Another impossible amount of time. I know it will fly by me in a blink. The last 20 sure have.

Way to take advantage of the new DSL. Great pictures and great post. He’s so cute.
That was very nice. nice. Kyle and Luke could be twins, I think. Just 3 months apart.
And good job with the time outs and the persistence! It’s tough, and sometimes I wonder how effective, but in the long run a good investment. Kyle will appreciate you for it – some day.
You are one hot mama! How do you look that good in your pjs?!
This post touched my heart in so many ways. Thank you ๐
for some reason this post made me teary eyed.
I got a little misty-eyed myself with this post. I loved it – and love the photos. He is such a cutie. My favorite it the shot outsie by his bucket.
Oh and how do you wake up looking that good??!
I can’t believe how grown up looking he has gotten. Where oh where did the time go? Congrats on the DSL. You can rejoin the digital age.
20 months old already. I still remember when you had him. Wow it has been over 20 months since I started reading!
Love your hubbies bed-head hair ๐ .. and Kyle is getting SO big!
Isn’t 20 months awesome!? My youngest is 20 months old, also. It’s amazing the things they can do and say. I can’t believe just a few months ago he was a real baby, and now…heading like a freight train towards being a real big boy.
He’s a beautiful boy, what eyes he has!
