Make Breakfast a Great Start For Big Days

While millions of you are amped up for the finale of professional football in America, our family is smack in the middle of flag football season. My kids are on different teams, so that means two different practices (one on each side of town) every week, and two games on Saturday. Sometimes four, if there’s been a rain cancellation which requires makeup games. Looking forward, the kids have karate belt testing coming up. And volleyball season. And baseball season. And special events at school every time they turn around (concerts, tests, project presentations, and more). This is our season for Big Days. The kind of days that make me struggle to get them to bed early the night before, to wake up on time please, and make sure they eat a good breakfast before they’re off and running.

Behold, Tip Number 12 from Team Kellogg’s:

A big heavy breakfast isn’t necessarily the best way for us to start these mornings, especially when we have to hit the ground running early. Sometimes the kids have games that start at 9AM. That might seem late to you, but my kids love to lounge around in their pajamas on  weekend mornings!

I have found that our best breakfasts for big days consist of simple favorites. Rice Krispies actually is one of the kids’ favorite cereals. And cereal is something we can prepare quickly, clean up easily, and enjoy while we eat – for the kids and for me and their dad.

Kellogg’s® believes that From Great Starts Come Great Things®. So we’re helping Moms start every day with a tip from the top athletes of Team Kellogg’s™ and Team USA dietitians. The thirty days leading up to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will each feature fun pieces of advice to help families fuel just like the athletes of Team Kellogg’s. To see all 30 tips, visit

Rice Krispies–I can just hear the snap, crackle and pop. And taste them. Thanks for reminding me of what used to be my favorite cereal–and since it’s rice, I can have it on this gluten-free diet I’m on. Right, Kellogg’s???

You can have this on a gluten free diet! It’s just rice! Not wheat flour!
