This morning as I was getting the kids ready for daycare, I felt a strange sensation in my lower abdomen. I didn’t pay much attention to it at first. My organs have been rearranging themselves every so often and that tends to hurt. After all, I just had a baby.
Okay, so that was over ten months ago. As I wrote on Parentricity, I am having some trouble letting go of the postpartum excuse.
But today my body gave me a clear signal that It’s Over. I got my period for the first time since July 2006.
That’s a good long time to have not had your period, for those of you who haven’t enjoyed this kind of time off. You forget what it’s like. You’re not used to that horrible achy pain down there. Or those cramps that feel like a little goblin is parked in your uterus, twirling forks in your tissue like he’s eating spaghetti. Of course that goblin has a wide, toothy grin and a creepy little laugh while he does it.
When I saw the evidence that yes, this is truly back, I was shocked and I went into full self-pity alarm mode. I made Stewart take the baby, I changed my clothes and suited up the lady parts, so to speak, and prepared to moan intermittently all day long. Thank goodness for OTC drugs, which I have on hand in great supply.

I feel your pain. Literally. I got mine for the first time over Christmas vacation and have had it 4 times since then. That’s 4 times in 2 months! And not just spotting – full week real ones. I think I’m back on track now, but who knows. At least I’m not pregnant (knock on wood).
you might regret asking for comments in that last post once you read this one.

Haha…I love the goblin bit, that is such a great description! I’m still blissfully free of the goblin, but it’s only been 7 months pp for me. 🙂
Big sigh! My wonderfully long blissful break is regretfully over as well. Since last week. Almost a whole year pp. I had forgotten to feel grateful; what was I thinking?!!!
Oh yeah, it seems so much worse then you remember, doesn’t it? The goblin… that’s great. That’s my new slang.
