Thanks to my parents, and the Creator of Intelligent Design (I am totally kidding), I have always liked to read. When I was little, I liked Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden and the Bobbsey Twins and Archie Comics and the backs of cereal boxes and anything that had words on it. In my “tween” years which didn’t even exist back then but whatever, I liked Stephen King and Sweet Valley High. Quite a mix.
I read lots and lots of books and I have a great vocabulary because of it. Stewart calls me The Word Lady. My friends make fun of me for using big words in casual conversation. I LOVE when people I meet do the same thing, and I instantly feel great respect for people who can pull it off without sounding like dorks.
Instead of flopping down on the couch and flipping through 8576 channels, I head for whatever book/magazine/newspaper I’m reading when I get a break or when I eat a meal alone. Sometimes, if the book is that good, I’ll read it during every spare moment I get: during a meal, in the bathroom, waiting in line at the post office, until 3AM in bed. Some books ARE that good. I can’t name any right now, because my brain is too full of words.
But I’ve stumbled upon a new obsession with reading blogs. If I come across a blog that I really like, I have to read it from the beginning, no matter how old it is, and I won’t check the new posts until I’m caught up. Right now I’m working on The Sarcastic Journalist, which I avoided because I always liked that blog title and I saw it linked on every frigging blog I looked at and I KNEW it would come to this. So, SJ, damn you and your funny, funny blog. It’s so much more uncomfortable to sit on my ass in this uncomfortable chair with my grilled cheese sandwich and can of Brisk than it would be to read the next Harry Potter book in bed. It makes me want to get a laptop.
I have a secret reason for being into this blog that I will tell you all when I am ready. And no, I’m not pregnant. Stop freaking out, Mom.
Oooh, do we get to make guesses? Let’s see…If you’re not pregnant, then maybe you just got fired for your blog? No, you can’t be fired from being Kyle’s Mom (well, not until he’s a teenager anyway). You’re going to the BlogHer convention and will meet SJ? You’re moving to Texas? Am I even close?
Hmm curious
I’m the same way with SJ! I found her again, through Tina, & am trying to get caught up on all past entries. (I’m also trying to still read all of Breed ’em & Weep too…)
At least I’ve already conquered all of your previous posts!
Quite the cliffhanger at the end of your post too…hmmm…interesting…
I really think we were destined to meet each other. I was just like you when I was little… I read EVERYTHING. Every morning when I had cereal, I read the whole box, even if I had already read it. Come to think of it, I read every morning while I had breakfast: comics, newspaper, cereal box, magazine, books, anything.
Unfortunately, my vocabulary has not benefitted as much as yours has, but I still feel like the past two and a half decades of reading has made me who I am.
Yay! Reading!
Ah yes, Trixie, what great memories I have of reading that series. I’ll have to check out the SJ now, too.
Ok now you’ve done it…I’ve got to read ANOTHER entertaining blog! There is much office work to do and many quilts to be made, but the blogs use up all that usable TIME!!!
Ok, first I will check out this Sarcastic person, then I will guess what your secret is.
your Mom’s comment cracked me up:
“Ok, first I will check out this Sarcastic person,”
he he he. thanks for the chuckle KTP’s Mom!
What, oh what, could you possilbly be keeping a secret about now? I won’t try to guess since your blog is the only one I read. So, I will wait until you find the right time to tell the world.
(Correction: your blog is the only one I read BESIDES Kevin’s!)
