Thanks, Jessica. You shared this via Instagram via Facebook or Twitter or one of those damned social media thingamajiggers and I was all “Oh! A Tracy Chapman song I’ve never heard!” and I actually searched for and listened to it. Not even just a casual click. Your day-long preoccupation was enough for me to think it must be good.

I had just written this post, feeling all smug and Earth Motherly, and then.

Why was I such a young fool 
Thought I’d make history 
Making babies was the best I could do 
Thought I’d made something that could be mine forever 
Found out the hard way one can’t possess another

All that I have is my soul. I guess I’d better polish it up, now.

    I love this song and cannot for the life of me remember where I first heard, but I’m a huge Tracy fan from back in the day, so I had to have it.
