National Month-Long Diaper Drive With Help a Mother Out

April 27, 2010 Kim Tracy Prince 7 Comments

HAMO events

I’m not sure whose idea this was, probably crazy Lisa Truong, co-founder of Help a Mother Out who often asks me if she’s crazy for taking on the things she takes on.  My answer is always “yes,” of course, but without people like her how would I have moved people and companies to donate over 15,000 diapers to our Los Angeles partners last December?  It’s a good crazy.

“Let’s have parties in several cities across the U.S.,” she said, “to celebrate Mother’s Day!  It’ll be great!”

You know what?  It is great.  Friends and colleagues across the country have stepped up to the challenge, and I couldn’t be prouder.  Behold:

May 1:

Los Angeles, my own wine and cheese date night thanks to donations by Fresh & Easy, Tillamook’s Loaf Love tour, Steaz Teas, the location courtesy of my friend Tania, hostessing and publicity efforts by my friend Julia, tunes by DJ Brian Klotz, and a few hours to romp around in The Game Truck.

Tucson, AZ – learn to knit party! Rachel Miller hosts a knitting party with sparkling conversation.

Phoenix AZ – Bloggy Boot Camp’s cocktail party hosted by SITS Girls and sponsored by Huggies.

Long Island, NY – Mother’s Night In wine and cheese party hosted by Bloganthropy‘s Candace Lindemann.

May 1 – May 2

San Diego – KidsFest!  HAMO will have a booth and is giving discounted tickets to the event.  Hosted by Sugar Jones.

May 2

San Francisco – Playdate at Peekadoodle Kids’ Club, with all the bells and whistles, hosted by Lisa Truong, Julie Michelle, Whitney Moss, and a gaggle of wonderful women.  Sponsored by Huggies.  More from Whitney here.

New Haven, CT – Rock Your Bottom! hosted by my dear friend Tina Zito.  Seriously, if you live in New Haven and you are reading this, most likely you are someone I love.  I haven’t had any reaction from any of you about whether you are going to this but please, at least support her by dropping off diapers or making an online donation (note that it’s for HAMO 2010).  She’s really stepping out of her comfort zone to do something fun for people while they help their community.

Kansas City, MO – Moms’ Night Out! Barefoot Wine, Spin Pizza, and helping people!  What could be better?  Hosted by Jill Gaikowski and Melissa Larson.

May 3

New York City – Mother’s Day Diaper Drive Cocktail Party hosted by Carol Cain, aka NYCityMama.  I met Carol when she barely caught the trolley from the hotel to the SV Moms Group party at BlogHer ’09.  I knew her online, but that in-person meeting was special because we were the only two on the trolley.  She’s sealed into my memory now.  This woman can put on a great event, so don’t miss it if you are in NYC!  Co-hosted by Corine of Complicated Mama. Sponsored by Affinia 50 Hotel.

May 15

Long Island – Craft For a Cause, also hosted by Candace of Bloganthropy.  Event happens at Garden of Eve, an Organic Farm, and there will be Pirate’s Booty and treats from Oriental Trading Company.

May 22

Seattle – Another great friend of mine, Michelle Bomberger, is hosting a playdate to collect diapers, on top of rallying everyone in her community to donate into drop bins and online too.  I own Michelle big.  Not only did I weasel her assistance with this party, but also, to my eternal regret, several years ago I missed Michelle’s wedding to Matt, who has been my friend since we were 17 and 16 years old.  ((GASP)).

TBA

Chicago – super badass mom-blogger Kim Moldofsky, who will never let me live down the time when I first saw her in person and exclaimed “you’re so TINY!”, is putting together a crazy awesome party in Chicago.  It might turn out to be something that I will be very jealous of.

Meanwhile, we’re getting some kickass online press about our events.  Check it out!

Just seeing this post now. The NYC Cocktail Party/Diaper Drive at the Affinia was tons of fun- we raised $400 for diapers in addition to an over flowing crib full of diapers generously donated by the attendees! 🙂

    Hi,
I am trying to organize a Diaper Drive with my 11 year old daughter for a school project. Any upcoming events that we can tie in with?
    Thanks!
