or “How I Unknowingly Went On a Diet”
(Fresh Diet promo code at the end)
Last week I had a rare miracle happen to me. Every morning around 6:15, I would open my front door and there, waiting for me in a cute insulated bag, was an entire day’s worth of delicious meals prepared just for me. All I had to do was heat them up and enjoy.
Let’s take a moment to savor that concept.
Yes, it’s true. I tried The Fresh Diet for exactly one week. I agree to be a guinea pig for the service before I actually knew what it was – a week’s worth of free food? Yes please! – so when I went to the website to start entering in my preferences, I realized that the “Diet” part of “The Fresh Diet” means that you choose a calorie maximum for the day. To make this experiment worth writing about, I chose a max of 1800 calories, which you can be darn sure I exceed on a regular basis in my normal life.
And how bad can it be when the food looks like this:
Here is how the Fresh Diet works: you log on to their website and go through an entertaining process of clicking on the little pictures of all the foods you DON’T like. You select a calorie level. Then you click on the calendar squares one at a time and select your meals for each day from the choices they present. If you select a meal that has an ingredient you don’t like, the system will tell you. If you choose too many carb-heavy meals, it will tell you that, too. If you just can’t imagine eating any of those choices, leave your selection blank and the Fresh Diet elves will choose one for you.
Your bag magically shows up at your front door. You eat all the food inside it and put the bag back outside before you go to sleep. The next day, it is magically full again.
Sigh.
This service is perfect for someone like me who wants to kickstart a healthier and lower-calorie diet while also feeding a hungry family with two kids in it who will eat nothing besides hot dogs. I cannot lose weight eating hot dogs. But with this meal delivery service I did not have to worry about what I would eat. Outsourcing my own food was an awesome idea.
I made all my choices and when I had a question, I called a real person who is not an elf and she was very helpful in showing me what to do. Since my diet was to start in about a week, all I had to do was sit back and wait for my Fresh Diet bag to arrive on the first day. Oh, and also enjoy my own private Fat Tuesday, eating and drinking everything I wanted since I knew I would soon be limited.
Stay tuned to find out how I dealt with not being able to snack, and to see how much weight I lost. Oh, the drama!

Wow, this food actually looks good! Most food delivery services do not achieve something this delicious.
The only trouble with “diets” is that you have to sustain them (like, forever) in order to maintain the health and weight loss effects. I don’t see how a busy mom who also has others to feed would be able to do this long-term…though as part of a “kickstart” it may work well!
That is one of the things I liked about the renegade diet is that it was more of a lifestyle. I agree with you both that as a “kickstart” the fresh diet might be just what you need. However, it will be difficult/expensive to maintain. Having said that..if it teaches you to only eat the food you are allotted for the day then it will be well worth it.
Kim!
I saw you in a commercial a few weeks back and said to my husband “Holy shi#$&. I know that girl! It took me a while to google you, but when I saw your blog I had a rare moment of being greatful for how technology has evolved because it allows the creative juices of people like you to be shared with the universe.
I’d love to catch up with you and look forward to your blog,
Nadine (Duhan) Floyd ND 93
Yeah, stay tuned for part 2 when you will learn how hard it is to stick to this plan. Although if I do something for long enough it usually does become a habit.
And holy cow – NADINE! Welcome!
