The Working Mother’s Complaint

May 23, 2006 Kim Tracy Prince 9 Comments

THERE IS NO TIME TO BLOG.

Seriously. I know lots of you are WM’s and so you’re all “um, welcome to MY world,” but it’s just as mind-numbing to me now that I’m in it as it was to YOU when you started, so let me have my moment. Thanks.

Here’s how it’s going:

I wake up at 6:30 and snuggle with Kyle while he drinks his morning bottle. I get out of bed around 7. I must leave the house at 8:10 MWF and 8:30 T Th. In between those times I must: get dressed and groom self, eat breakfast and drink coffee, feed Kyle, dress Kyle, gather various things, and fit in some time to play with him. Then I come to work, work all day with several snack/bathroom/stretch breaks, then I come home by 6:45 usually. Kyle goes to bed at 8PM. Between those times I must: make dinner, feed Kyle, play with Kyle, bathe Kyle, and do the bedtime routine. Then I shower, try to do little chores like laundry, bills, etc., and relax and have dessert. Oh, and clean the kitchen if Stew didn’t do it, or do it over again.

Last weekend I spent the entire time doing laundry and running errands. Oh, and I did see The Da Vinci Code. Don’t get me started.

I am unusually and extraordinarily tired, in the same way that I was tired when I was pregnant and working. I may be hallucinating right now. I guess that helps me be creative. There’s not much time for leisure or seeing friends or blogging, which is my great guilty pleasure and love. I miss you guys. I tried to post pictures below but I’m having trouble with the Snapfish grabs. Those jerks have stopped making post-worthy digital files available for free. Now I have to wait for the hard copies and scan them b/c I refuse to pay 29 cents for a high-res image!

I swore to myself that with this job I would not: wear sweatpants to work, work too much overtime, or blog from my desk. Well. I already broke THAT rule. Stand by to see if the others go down, too.

It is a difficult adjustment. You’ll find your groove, just give yourself time. I download pics from my digital camera to me computer and use Picasa uploading them to my blog. It is free and there is a link for it on the blogger home page. Actually, I take too much credit. I am a computer idiot and my hubby does this for me… none-the-less…

As long as you leave the sweatpants at home everything else will fall into place. The working mom thing isn’t easy, but it’s a lot easier if you feel like you look good.
Have I been in LA too long? Probably.

Oh boy, and I have another job interview tomorrow. Am I making a mistake? I thought it might be better to be working. Now I’m wondering…

It sounds like you are handling your new WM life very well, although I too was tired just reading about it! I am NOT looking forward to eventually being a WM! Post when you can, but know we miss you when you are away for long….

Hang in there Kimmy. You will get a groove going and be super mom in no time. It does not really get much easier (sorry), but you get used to it. Take some time for yourself – that’s what dad’s are for.
