Fully Cooked

March 20, 2005 Kim Tracy Prince 2 Comments

Today I am 37 weeks pregnant. That means the baby is officially full term, and if he wants to come out any time after today he will be allowed to. That means he will rip a bloody tunnel through the lower part of my body, then expect to be fed and coddled as his mama heals.

Having said that, I will say now that Stewart and I are truly excited to meet our baby. With only three weeks until the due date, we finally got the nursery furniture into the nursery and put it together last night. I kept thinking about all those couples on “A Baby Story” you see putting cribs together because there’s no other footage of them to show. The husband dutifully tries to put together the pieces while the wife squints at the directions and says “You’re doing it wrong!” and the whole thing collapses. We fared a bit better than that, and in no time I was fussing with the crib sheet and bumper that I found last week at Pottery Barn Kids.

We are so suburban, and so typical.

But hey, our kid doesn’t know that. All he will know is that he will be properly cared for – changed, fed, cuddled, serenaded, and loved. And if my memories are any indication, hopefully his childhood memories will be warm and with him for the rest of his life, and he will be grateful to his mama and papa for giving him such a great head start.

(This is definitely the hormones talking. I feel very emotional about this right now. But take heart, other pregnant ladies. I’m not done complaining. For example, I finally got to sleep in my own bed again last night, hoping that I would wake feeling rested and ready to tackle the day. Not so. My body won’t let me. I woke up feeling like an over-inflated balloon. My feet and hands are so swollen that it hurts to walk or clench a fist, and my face is very puffy.)

My baby was born April 19, 2004 at 37 weeks gestation EXACTLY … it was like she said “Ok, I’m officially fully cooked now and ready to join the party out there!” Enjoy your last couple weeks of pregnancy till your little one decides to come join you!

You know what I said to Wendy on Sunday? “KTP is seriously having her baby in like 3 weeks. I mean, she’s 3 weeks away from having a baby. Theoretically, she could go into labor at my house on Tuesday while we’re playing cards. Like… for real.” It hit me… like a ton of baby blocks. Yay! Baby!!
