Get Over Yourself

February 13, 2007 Kim Tracy Prince 24 Comments

Yesterday I kind of overdid it. When an opportunity came up to combine work and blogging, I jumped in front of everyone else, boxing them out of my zone so I could cover the gig. I went to the set of a primetime sitcom, where about a dozen local and far “mommybloggers” had gathered to watch a scene taping, have a Q&A with the cast and executive producer, and chat over coffee. My job was to produce the video coverage of the event, with the end result being small edited segments that will be seen on their blogs eventually.

I had heard of several of these blogs so I was really excited to meet these people. Way more excited to meet them than to mingle with the sitcom stars. Color me jaded, or color me with my priorities in line. The bloggers I met were adorable and perky and they all told me how tiny I look for being 30 weeks pregnant. They can be my friends.

By the time I got home with Kyle I was wiped out. The shoot itself wasn’t so bad – it was the not sleeping for 2 days and the sudden inability to eat food without pain and nausea. Good times. So, this morning I dragged and dragged and instead of getting ready for work right after Stew and Kyle left, I watched an episode of A Baby Story.

I’m not sure why I continued watching after hearing the mother talk about how she had breast cancer and her baby was a miracle baby. Maybe I was hoping that there would be a happy ending. There wasn’t. She died 2 months after the baby was born, and she also left behind a five year old daughter. This was April of 2005, right when I was experiencing the joy of becoming a parent myself.

Thank you, Trina Nafzger, for doing A Baby Story and sharing yourself through all the pain. I couldn’t dwell on my discomfort after watching your show and sobbing aloud when I saw the “In Loving Memory Of…” slate come up at the end. I am so lucky to be healthy and surrounded by people who love and support me. Sometimes I forget about all that and whine too much about my heartburn or my cannon belly. How you would have loved to have those problems. I hope you are at peace and watching over your daughters.

Updated 12/07/09: From the traffic that comes to this post periodically, I can tell when Trina’s episode of A Baby Story has aired. Scores of you google and bing her name, and you end up here. I’m sorry I can’t give you a better update on the lives of Ms. Nafzger’s daughters or her husband. The most I can do is nod my head in agreement, think of her, and take a tiny bit of comfort in knowing that her story touched you as much as it touched me. My children are 4 and 2 now, and we are all healthy, and I never take that for granted.

Sabotage! You can NOT tell these sad stories on your blog because they just get to me and I can’t get them out of my head.
On the other hand, it motivates me to go to work in the morning.
