There are several kids in our mommy/play group who know many baby signs and they’re even talking. Every week when our class meets, we each report our kid’s progress and I usually have odd things to report like “Kyle said GA!” while other moms tell us that their babies learned 5 signs and how to bake bread. Next week I will actually have something to report.
This morning Kyle clapped, for real, for the first time. He was applauding the following things: the beach, applesauce, the purple spoon, and Mommy’s yummy noises. Then Daddy joined in, and we had quite a cheering section going. It was very exciting. So now we can add clapping to Kyle’s retinue of tricks:
Clapping
Clicking (he makes this little clicking noise by sucking the roof of his mouth. Not to be confused with “clucking.”)
High-five
Peekaboo
Hide and seek (Okay, just “seek.”)
Playing the bongos. Really.
And one that I like to call “Library.” Whenever Kyle sees a bookshelf, he pulls himself up on it and removes all of the books, one by one. He inspects each one to see if it is tasty enough, decides that no, it’s not, and dumps it upon the floor. When he has a good pile going, he sits down and begins to eat the books. Perhaps I should rename this trick “Library Cafe.”

Hey, you think I taught him that clicking noise. That is the noise I made to him when he was home at Christmas and he would just stare at me. I am going to pretend he learned it from me LOL
Hmm, Library Cafe. I’ll have to think about something appropriate in that category for a birthday present!
Awww, so cute! And obviously a genius already.
We have a nice Library Cafe here at our house, too. Except, Juliette also likes to eat the books. Won’t eat peas, but will eat books. Whatever.
Oh my what a big boy you have there! Way to go Kyle. I love when Babies clap…so cool!
Man, I’ve been waiting for Luke to clap and he just looks at me like I’m a dummy when I do it for him. But, he does everything else on your list, even the clicking! Took me the longest time to figure out what it was – sounded like teeth grinding sometimes but he doesn’t have teeth to grind. We have a lovely selection at our Library Cafe, too, most of which are looking pretty ratty now.
