Nope, he’s not Jesus, after all. He’s Superobama! I’m not a Democrat, heck, I’m not a Republican either, and you all know my reservations about Obama, but these t-shirts are entertaining.
On Inauguration Day I missed the new president’s speech (don’t worry, I watched on YouTube later, politics 2.0). I was shuttling myself around Canoga Park in a futile attempt to retrieve my car from the body shop where it had languished for 2 weeks – it had to be repainted because the original paint was “delaminating,” some kind of defect that the factory paid for, thank God. I had planned to attend a breakfast/inauguration viewing event that started at 9AM, and by 9:10 I was told my car would take another 20 minutes to be ready. Upon seeing the disappointed/frustrated/outraged expression on my face, the body shop owner offered to let me borrow his own car so I could go to the event and come back and get my car later. So I did. I pushed that little Corolla down the 101 with the wind in my hair and some “Twilight” soundtrack on the CD player and made it to the event by 9:30!
Jessica Gottlieb, ***@**********rt.com“>that internet force of nature, graciously hosted a combination of bloggers and Republicans at her home to watch the historical festivities. Quaker provided a personal chef/caterer and a bitchin’ oatmeal bar. I hadn’t eaten until I got there, so I piled it high and wolfed it down, and eventually I started to mingle and meet new people. It was pointless to try to listen to what was happening on the television with the high-pitched cackle of women’s voices drowning it out, so I just worked the room. I tried to position myself for the Daily News camera, but as it turned out I’m only in the back corner of the room for some of the shots. (Can’t find link, but check out FMM’s blog, last link in this post.)
I didn’t engage in much political talk, but there was some. I learned a few new things, including the fact that fellow blogger Karen Samuels was in Obama’s class in law school. I didn’t know much about her except that I liked her and that she is Jewish (what?), so hearing that was one of those mommy moments that I love when you find out something about a mom that makes her more of a real person, not “just a mom.”
I also learned that pitbulls were bred to be nanny dogs from Slackmistress, my new girl blogger crush. She’s not a Republican, or a mommy blogger, so why was she even there? I don’t even care, because she was great, and so was Katee of e-polish blog (all things nail polish!) and Fightin’ Mad Mary, who posted a great piece about the event here.
I also met the only Republican women from Santa Monica, one of whom runs a fitness studio and talked me into taking a spinning class, which I will attend only in the spirit of getting a good story out of it, because I will surely pass out in a puddle of my own vomit from the exertion. These women also know an old friend of mine who runs Yoga Hop, a studio that has you do yoga to hip-hop music? Seems counterintuitive, but I’ll try that too, if only to revisit the sphere of goodness and light that is Matt Reyes. Um, and to write about it, of course.
Once again, props to JG, who rules our little corner of the web, and looks hot while she does it. Also to Elizabeth, my financial guru and friend, who co-hosted and brought patriotic stickers.

The dog’s name is Junior (I think) 🙂
That dog looks just like Noodle from behind/above.
wait – are you a Republican?
I was hoping to read more on what these women had to say about the inauguration but clearly there was no interest. I also searched your blog to get more info on why you don’t trust Obama but nothing came up. Do tell. I can only guess some of the obvious reasons.
Oh gosh, if Junior could read his feelings might be hurt.
@sal it was a mixed gathering
@Trisha I could almost hear the snottiness in the “these women” we have a lot to say, but we’re too busy twirling our hair and looking vapid.
Thanks for the shout out KTP! I wish I had more time to properly meet you but I had to run off to work. Hopefully we’ll have time to chat at another event.
Well, KTP – now you’ve done both religion AND politics on your blog. Good times! There’s only one controversial topic left: sex. That’s the one I really want to read!
sal – my family reads this blog. ain’t no way. if I ever blog about sex, it will not be here, but I’ll email links to anyone who wants them.
