Random thoughts for HOT Sunday night:
Listening to right now: “For a Kiss” by Venice, from the album “Born and Raised”
Listening on: my video iPod
Now it’s: Go-Go’s “Vacation”
Just got back from: meeting with a friend to give him a critique on his script (it’s a ZOMBIE movie!)
It is: 100 degrees in the valley
It is: 84 degrees in my house
I went swimming: once this weekend
Number of parties we attended: one
Number of times Kyle jumped in a mud puddle: one
Number of foreign objects Kyle tried to swallow: 7362
You know that weird in-between feeling? The one where everything is fine, but you’re still jumpy, unsettled, waiting for something to happen? Yeah, that’s what I have. Maybe it’s because I’m so sweaty.
On the iPod now: “Too Shy” by Kajagoogoo
Charlie Brown said “happiness is having 10 things to look forward to and nothing to dread.”
Ugh. Weird post. In keeping with the point of this website, Kyle is doing well. He has a molar on his left side. It seems to have appeared out of nowhere. Well, nowhere besides the giant angry red cyst that appeared on his gums for the last few weeks. One day it was this dark red painful looking lump, the next day it was a giant tooth. I keep thinking he has some food stuck in his mouth and I do a double take: oops, no that was just the molar the size of a golf ball!! No wonder the kid wakes up at night. That must hurt!
He’s a very affectionate little boy. He is learning how to kiss without biting my face off. It’s pretty cute. Also, if I say “Big hug!” he will toddle over to me and put his head on my shoulder and hook an arm around my neck. Sort of the point of motherhood I guess. Kills me.
iPod: “Front Row,” Alanis Morissette
One last thought, if you’re still reading. If you were up for sending donations to my “HK family,” let me know if you send something to them. They already received one big box and sent me a lovely note, which I will share in another post.
iPod: “American Girls,” Counting Crows
Back when I worked at the cable entertainment network, they used to throw lavish parties for us to make up for the crappy salary and even crappier hours. One summer they hired Counting Crows to come and do a concert for us right in the company’s courtyard. My cubicle was right by the window so I watched the setup and soundcheck right from my seat. I loved Counting Crows and I was jumping out of my skin all day waiting for the show. I had seen them live before and they were pretty dead meat, but I thought maybe it was just an off night. Plus, this time it was an exclusive audience of people in “the biz,” so I was excited by the idea of meeting the lead singer. Sure enough, the concert was no better than listening to the album in my car and singing along, but I still marched right up to the lead singer (Adam something) and introduced myself and tried to make small talk. It went something like this:
Me: Hey, great show!
Adam: Urgh, mmmth.
Me: Yeah, right on, man! You guys rock!
Adam: Mmmrrmmrrr shhmm. (looks down at feet, shuffles them, wants to die)
Me: Okay! Have a great night!
Either he was high as a kite or has serious stranger anxiety. I still love the music, but I’m not as taken with the band, you know what I’m saying?
And for my final trick: “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” Britney Spears. Come on, BRING IT.

I am so missing all of Kyle’s new lovable tricks! Sighhhhh
this post is great! i love counting crows – that story is hilarious. i’ve got to get an ipod.
