Songs That Stab Me in the Heart: “Save You” by Gone Til November

August 9, 2012 Kim Tracy Prince Leave a Comment

I wish I could save you
I wish I could say to you
I’m not going nowhere
I wish I could say to you
It’s gonna be alright

This is a song on one of Kelly Clarkson’s albums that I have (yes, I do, shut up) but a little poking around on the internet showed me that it was created and originally recorded by a band called Gone Til November. I like Kelly’s version a lot – it made me cry, which is not hard, but doesn’t happen unless the song is good – but when I heard this version I was hooked on this woman’s raw and simple voice. The lyrics are the most powerful aspect of this song to me. Aren’t there dozens of people in your life you wish you could save? And aren’t you mostly helpless to do so? Letting go is the hardest thing.
