Lately Kyle has been making progress on the potty. He went from pooping on the sidewalk to peeing on the potty at least once a day. Now, sometimes twice a day, he requests to poop on the toilet. I see the poop look come over his face like a cloud, and I drop everything, unless I am holding Brady, and in that case I quickly place him on a stable surface or in a bouncy seat, sometimes ripping him right off the boob. I say to Kyle “Is it time to poop on the toilet?” And he says “Yeah!”
He sits directly on the toilet, not on some wimpy potty seat. Since he’s so big for age, this works out okay. So far he has not fallen in. Ew. Then he actually poops! The danger with him is that he enjoys looking back into the bowl to see what he’s put in there, so he almost topples off of the toilet in his twisting efforts to look behind him.
I cheer and clap and promise him a treat. He is catching on.
Every time I go to the bathroom now, he must come with me. He listens for the sound of things falling into the toilet, and when he hears it, he says “Hey Mommy! You peed on the toilet! Great job!” And he claps heartily.
I never thought I would enjoy applause so much as in the “privacy” of my own bathroom.

Congrats! Let me tell you, parenting got *so* much better when it stopped requiring my handling poopie diapers.

Only the parent of a toddler will love the applause that is delivered when poop or pee happens! Way to go Kyle!
