Santa brought us a Wii for Christmas. (Okay, it was actually Nintendo itself, for whom I hosted a promotional party back in October that was super fabulous. In return, I received a Wii console and a Wii Fit Plus.) (That last bit was the disclaimer for the FTC, the FAA, the ATF, and the FDC.)
Anyway. Weeks later I bought a copy of Lego Star Wars on eBay, and Kyle plays it whenever possible. It looks fun and I’ve played it with him a few times, but never with any freedom, of course. So the other night after he went to bed I grabbed the remote and began to play a few minutes of the game. I soon became lost in the adorableness of it and the challenge of unlocking the new levels.
Next thing I knew it was 1:00 AM.
Disgusted with myself for wasting so much time on the game instead of reading the latest book club selection which is due tonight and I’m only halfway through, I lay awake for a few minutes thinking about the lost hours. Despite the un-productiveness of the game-playing, I felt very calm. Losing myself in the game I thought about nothing else for almost three hours. No stress, no Things To Do, no guilt, even. It was a great escape, the way I imagine Stewart feels when surfing, because he has told me that when you’re out there in the water, all you think about is the next wave.
And so Mommy has found a new, un-productive, decidedly low-impact stress reliever. But she must set the timer next time or weeks may go by while she unlocks level 73.
(Star Whores is what Brady calls it. It’s hilarious and adorable.)
When I saw the title "Star Whores" I thought it would have something to do with Princess Leia in a bikini.
I haven't played a lot of "Wegostawwawswii" (as it's called in our house), but my husband has been known to spend hours on it late at night. He does it more to unlock the next level than to relax.
Funny post!
We have Lego Star Whores too!!!
My son loves to play that game and the Indiana Jones one too.
I might admit to having played them too, once or twice.
Do you dream about the game if you play it right before you go to bed? I do. Totally addictive.
Hilarious — since we are major fans of the games here, too. Staw Whoas is how it’s pronounced, I understand. According to my 7-year-old.
I hope you have gotten over your addiction by now…
