David Tobocman: the One-Man Children’s Band

November 13, 2012 Kim Tracy Prince Leave a Comment

Once in a while a really nice guy comes along, and when you see him doing good things and creating art, you just want to cheer for him from the sidelines.  That’s how I feel about David Tobocman.

This musician’s first children’s album, Very Helpful Songs, is a frequently-played selection on the iPod in my kitchen.  I don’t know which of us likes it more, me or the kids, but either way, we hear his songs pretty often.  Tobocman recently released his third album for kids, Escalator.

Who doesn’t love an escalator?

This new collection is another great group of songs from a kid’s perspective.  My personal favorite is “Custom Family Spaceship,” which is perfect for my budding scientist/astronaut/vehicle enthusiast.  Escalator is full of fun, kicky songs that I’ve been playing for the kids after school, and that’s the one they request by name.

Escalator is available on CD and to download. To purchase and preview, click here.

Track Listing

1. Escalator  2:13

2. Custom Family Spaceship 2:55

3. Born to Rock 3:08

4. Gonna Be a Garbage Man 2:26

5. The Owie Song 2:30

6. Playin’ on a Sunday 3:36

7. Run Run, Race Car 3:21

8. Zoe’s Intro  :19

9. Peace Sign 2:27

10. America’s Our Country 3:21

11. Big Train 3:06

Also, since he’s such a nice guy, Tobocman released a free download of “Spooky Stuff,” a soothing Halloween song he co-wrote with his young daughter, who sings on the track too (and it’s very cute). I know it’s a little late, but maybe you can save it for next year.
