This is what I’ve been thinking about lately.
Elizabeth Gilbert is coming to speak in Malibu in a few weeks, and though I publicly loved/hated her mega-sensation “Eat, Pray, Love,” when I read it five years ago, I am entranced by her, so I scored two seats for the wait-list-only event.
I have been forcing myself to write every morning. First thing. Not knowing what will come out. Not working on any particular project. I’m “acting as if” – just hoping that the practice of writing will inspire me to be inspired. And I remembered Gilbert’s TED talk and so I listened to it again this morning while wrapping birthday presents for 8-year-old boys, and it’s so good that I a)had to share it here for those of you who have never listened to it and b)am considering reading “Eat, Pray, Love” again with the perspective of Me, 5 Years Older.

I actually listened to this whole video! I think Gilbert is an inspiring speaker and I understand why you want to get up and “show up for work” every morning. Seems like I should do that with my quilting…
I wonder, did she choose her outfit deliberately? Except for her head and hands, she blended seamlessly into the background so you have to focus on her.
Who’s taking the other ticket?

@Mom, I actually wondered why she chose that outfit given her a) assumed wealth and b) slim build. But now I see that you might have a good point!
@Jane, the globetrotting Melanie (@wynnewin) of Travels With Two has the other seat. I’d bet it’s totally full by now, but it might not hurt to call and see if there’s still room on the wait list or there is a cancellation: http://www.colapublib.org/libs/malibu/events.php
