Before
On September 18, 2004, before I became a mother, before all of these people I love died, before “Call Me Maybe” happened to the world, before “mommy blogger” was a term, before I left the world of reality television, before I met all of you, I published the very first post on this blog.
Below is a short photo time capsule. I wasn’t as good at cataloguing pictures at that time because I didn’t yet have the blogger mindset that everything is a blog post. Now? Obvs.
So, thanks for hanging out with me for 8 years. Enjoy:
January 2004. Frida and I have conquered Baja. I am not yet pregnant.
Stew with me in Baja. We have only the dog and ourselves to worry about. See the worry-free looks on our faces?
At our friends’ wedding in September 2004. Kyle is in there. I am a brand new blogger.
Hanging out with Frida in our spit-up free house. There was dog hair everywhere. 16 weeks pregnant.
The wolf man and red riding hood, Halloween 2004. Foreshadowing my blond.

And I included this as a true time capsule. This would normally be a throwaway picture, right? But I’m so happy I found it because it’s a glimpse into our everyday pre-kid life. What you see above that is so 2004:
1. CD’s
2. Giant desktop computer and more giant monitor
3. Our dog
4. 30-minute betacam video tapes

I haven’t know you all those years, but I have know you long enough to have seen a recent pic of your boys and thought, “Wow, they are getting old!” Aren’t we all. Love the 2004 pic.
Good luck with your next 8 years of blogging!
awww – I love this. Our lives looked surprisingly a lot alike before kids, before blogging.
Congrats Kim!!! I can’t wait to read the next 8 years!
Congratulations!!
Well done and congratulations! I started writing at The 21st Century Housewife back in 2002, so I guess we are some of the pioneers
Whut thuh? My DVR says it recorded The Kyle & Brady Show, but instead I got Stewart Loves Kimmie! Must be on hiatus.
Yeah, I know. The blog pre-kids would have been so boring!
Indeed! People sometimes stare at me like I have two heads!
OMG I will be SO old by then.
You had beta tapes in your office, too?
Kim. I love this. Especially the Betacam tapes. Awesome.
xx
I KNEW someone would get that!
Great look back.
Have you applied yet for the AARP of bloggers? You should be a card-carrying member. Maybe a board member. Not a bored member! Kudos.
Glad to have you in the blogging world! Looking forward to many more years getting to know you. Congrats on your milestone
I have always loved “time capsule” photos. And these are great. Congratulations on 8 years! Truly amazing and I look forward to a lot more.
Love those pictures Kim. (You make a fabulous Red Riding Hood!) And those Beta tapes – Bwah ha ha! (Athough if you want to know a secret, the Ross family was still using the VCR a year ago!) So glad we met through this crazy blogging world.
Love this. Life has so much feature creep. We forget how things have changed and then the pictures prove it.
What a great post! Happy Blogversary! Love the photos from the old days!
