Yesterday my father and I took the kids to the zoo. Somehow Kyle got sunscreen in his eye on the way there, which made him miserable no matter what we did to help him. He whined and cried throughout the whole zoo experience, until we finally cut our trip short because he was so unhappy and Brady didn’t seem to care anyway. He liked watching the other kids, or the fountain, or eating snacks. The animals could have been stuffed for all he knew.
This morning, his birthday morning, started with Kyle trying to get up at 6 AM when he did not go to sleep until after 10 last night. After much cajoling and him crying himself back to sleep, I couldn’t go back to bed so here I am. And I realized that today is Brady’s birthday. I am so glad I turned to my blog for refuge, because I would have otherwise forgotten to prepare the special wake-up that I want both boys to have on each of their birthdays. I want to distinguish their special days since their birthdays are so close together.
My poor little second baby, doomed to have his experiences tainted by his big brother’s three-ness.

Happy Birthday! The sunscreen in the eye thing happened to my girl at Disney last fall also. I thought when she was fussing that her eye hurt that a piece of dust blew in it and would tear out. Her pics of breakfast with Pooh & the gang are all with a red watery eye. After breakfast when it was not better we headed to the nurses station. Yes, mama is a nurse, but sunscreen in the eye never occured to me. I’m certain this nurse has seen it lots at the park. She immediately asked if we’d put sunscreen on – yes, being good parents – ?? – we had. She rinsed our girls eye with saline and the rest of the day went much better!
