I Do Not Want This Mammogram. I Do Not Want It, Sam I Am.

June 16, 2010 Kim Tracy Prince 6 Comments

Here’s what’s going down this week:

1.  We are moving on Friday.

2.  My grandparents are moving too.

3.  At work the plumbing is all messed up and it’s crazy town over there.  Yesterday the water was shut off and we had to leave the premises to relieve ourselves.  So I just didn’t drink any water.  I was dehydrated by end of business.

4.  I shot, edited, and submitted a video for my friend to enter Oprah Winfrey’s talk show host contest.

5.  During the packing process, some very important items have gone missing, including my brain.

6.  Kyle returns to the daycare for a 3-day-a-week summer schedule.

7.  I started working part-time at a second job.

8.  My dad arrived last night.  My mom arrives tomorrow.

9.  I’m having my first mammogram tomorrow – two years before schedule – because…

10.  My Aunt Jeannie had lung surgery today.  That one right there trumps any of my minor issues.  In April she found a lump.  In May she had a mastectomy and also discovered that bonus!  She has lung cancer, too!  (Excuse me while I take a moment to punch lung cancer in the face.)  So today she had a lobe of her lung removed.  I don’t think there’s an app for that.

So, I will go have this mammogram in the middle of all this chaos, just in case.  And my heart goes out to people battling cancer everywhere.

I started having mammograms in my early 20’s because I had lumps and “dense” tissue. I know you’ll feel anxious no matter what anyone says, but they’re very routine, and I’m sure it’s just a cyst or something similar.

You know… because I’m a doctor and I can diagnose it all through your blog.

    I just KNOW. Okay.

I started having mammograms around age 38 d/t my mom having breast cancer prior to age 40 (she is fine) … I had one when Heather was a baby in which my ARNP said “I do not like the feel of this lump” and the mammogram tech then said “I do not like the look of this lump” and the ultrasound tech then also said “I do not like the look of this lump”. Ikes. Luckily turned out to be benign. Better to catch things early when they are curable though of course nothing there TO catch! Oh… had the plumbing issue at work once and had to walk next door to K-Mart to pee – LOL! Good luck with moving and all and hope Jeannie does well!

You think you’ve got problems? I just self-diagnosed myself with bursitis in my hip. I might not be able to run for a couple of weeks!

Seriously, better two years early than two years late.

On the bright side, this should take your mind off all that other drama, at least for an hour or so.

    Hi Kim;

I went for my first mammogram last year and wrote a post about it. My own little PSA…

Hope yours went as easily as mine did.
