Okay, maybe not you. Or you. Or, heck, there are lot of you I don’t hate.
I’m just super cranky and mad at the IRS, my neighbors’ dogs, people who run out in front of moving cars, and those idiots at the gym who drop huge weights right outside the exercise room when I’m practicing yoga.
So I got home and I was still cranky. I was still cranky in the shower. I was even more cranky when I realized that I washed my hair and I have to comb it now. I hate combing my hair like I hate ironing and mopping. But combing! I have to do that every day. Feh.
I came in here to do a little receipt-hunting (let me tell you, so far this audit thing is NOT PRETTY) and I noticed a check on my desk that I have set aside for the Hurricane Katrina family. And I actually forgot about my own stupid problems. Duh.
I owe you an update. I lost contact with Miriam and the three girls a few weeks ago. Her phone had been disconnected and she stopped returning email. So I sent her a letter via registered mail, asking her to contact me. Last Sunday she called me from a friend’s house. She is real! And humble, and grateful, and sweet, and funny, and strong.
Efforts to outfit her three children with uniforms have been frustrating for her. I did what I could making phone calls and getting information, but she needed to get her girls to the right places, fill out the forms, wait for answers, etc. She got the runaround from different school system bureaucrats, and at the end of it all she was able to get at least one outfit for each of them so they can at least start school. But as you can imagine, it’s a bitch to wash the same outfit every day.
So here is my renewed plea on behalf of Miriam’s three girls ,ages, 7, 8, and 12. Wal-Mart sells the uniform supplies, so gift cards to Wal-Mart will go a long way for this family. I’m sure any little bit will help.
