Pictures from Sick Week

October 28, 2005 Kim Tracy Prince 21 Comments

Kyle and I are still sick, although I think we are on the upswing. This is day 6 of the dreaded pox, as Stewart calls it. Two nights ago Kyle hardly slept at all, which means I didn’t either, so I took him to the doctor who said he just has a regular cold, and oh yeah – he’s TEETHING. Again. Like we need THAT on top of this stupid cold.

For 5 days all I did all day long was suck snot from Kyle’s nose and try to get him to sleep. I had a low grade fever the whole time, so I was slightly dizzy and weak. Here’s a picture of my “nest:”

It has all the requirements: cough medicine, tissues, orange juice, the phone, and all three remotes for the TV/DVD player. And because it’s the sick MOMMY nest, a baby monitor and timer (to time my 1,000 trips back to Kyle’s room to get him to go to sleep).

This experience reminds me of the Great Nap Struggle. What a nightmare that seemed at the time. This time I don’t mind it as much, because I feel so bad for Kyle – he’s so uncomfortable. But I am nervous about regressing – he’s certainly getting accustomed to the 24-hour cuddling and attention. And his grandparents are due to arrive tonight for a 5-day visit. Talk about serious doting and cuddlage!

To distract Kyle from his discomfort I gave him a big piece of banana to experiment with. I want to get him used to foods that have more texture than runny rice cereal.

He’s still not quite sure what to do with the banana once it’s in his mouth. We’ll try again another time!

The one big giant bummer about this cold is that it will probably prevent us from attending the Mommy Mafia Halloween party. I was really looking forward to it. But I guess it’s better to NOT infect 25 other children with the cold we probably got from them in the first place. We’ll just have our own Kyle-centric party here at the House of Prince.

Nothing is worse then having a sick baby… except having a sick Mommy at the same time.
I think doctors diagnose “teething” when they don’t know what else it is.
    Feel better soon!

Hope you feel better soon. We have 3 remotes also… somehow seems a bit crazy, but we can’t get one that will operate everything!

Gabriel’s been up at night a lot, too, with a cold that has now dwindled to a phlegmy cough. I’m just waiting for him to feel a bit better so I don’t feel guilty for not picking him up at every whimper.
Have fun with the grandparents. Is this your mom and dad or the inlaws?

I’m sick too! Only mine’s this weird, crazy stomach thing. Anyway, cheers to ruined Halloween weekends.
Sorry the tiny man is so sick, and sorry you’re sick too. Let us know if there’s anything we can do. But Gina won’t be as available because… ta-da… she got a job! A good one! She starts Tuesday. AAANNNNDDD… she got an apartment! One in which she’s moving into this weekend!!
Also… Kyle looks like Stewart in these pictures. I usually think he looks like you, but I see Stew in these ones.

Disturbed sleep patterns are a bummer, but they can be repaired. After Luke’s cold, he got in the habit of getting up between 5-9 times a night – NOT GOOD. Just when he was finally better and I was ready to do the “cry it out” thing, he decided to do it on his own. He now sleeps from 7:30 to 7:30 with one waking/feeding at 11:30-12. Hallelujah! I think it may also have something to do with the house being cold so he’s bundled and cozy – he seems to sleep better in the cold room with a blanket tucked in around him.
