A Room of My Own

Sometimes the best blog posts are written while the children are wreaking havoc and the dog is barking and the TV is blaring and the phone is ringing and there’s someone at the door and a spider just crawled across your desk, because pressure is good for creative energy. This will not be one of those posts. After all, we don’t even have a dog anymore.

I just banished the children, who were alternately jumping on our battered furniture and playing their rocket box like a drum, to the bathroom where their father will let them splash and cover the floor with 2 inches of water. It’s not like I didn’t sit at this computer for hours today trying to write. In fact, that’s exactly what I did while Kid 1 and dad were out and Kid 2 was sleeping. If not inspired right away, inevitably I will surf and tweet and read old emails and get distracted and then suddenly the baby monitor starts squawking and it feels like only a few minutes have gone by.

I managed to eke out this pretty little post using pictures from when Kyle was a baby. Go ahead, check it out. I’ll wait while you do. In fact, if enough of you check it out, I’ll get a bonus.

Cute, right? I’m also supposed to be delivering something for the Los Angeles Moms Blog this week, but the best I can do right now is write about cursing in front of the children, and as usual, Ms. Gottlieb is a hard act to follow.

So throw me in a room with complete chaos happening, right at bedtime, and that’s when I get the urge to write. Go figure. I started a brilliant post, but then all hell broke loose and I had to intervene with bathtime. It’s not like I can take the computer and hide in my bathroom. Wait, that’s not a bad idea…
