May 1, 2006 Kim Tracy Prince 7 Comments

Kyle and I are laying low in Connecticut this week. We came back for a visit with my family and so far we are fulfilling that goal quite well. Kyle played with my grandfather (who is recovering from a nasty fall at Thanksgiving) a couple of times already and brought light to his day. My aunt Kathy watched Kyle the other night when I went out with my parents to see my brother, Uncle Fireman Kevin, perform in “The Complete Works of Shakespeare, Abridged.” Kathy had a great time playing with Kyle and watching him shake his booty.

My parents and I had a nice adventure at Elms College in Massachusetts, the venue of the play. I have never heard of Elms College, and it seems not many other people have either. It was a ghost town on a Saturday night. The play was funny though, and it gave me a chance to see my brother, my sister who joined us, and last but not least…Suburbia at Large!!!

It was my second meeting of a blogger in person. I’ve known S@L since we were in our early stages of pregnancy, or right after I started blogging. It was so neat to meet her. She is really really nice and funny and cute. And she has great clothes. Envy her. I remarked to her that it is natural to be nervous when meeting a fellow blogger because on our blogs we are able to edit ourselves and put our best feet forward but in person we are unadulterated and, speaking for myself only, likely to say something really stupid or not get the witty joke that the other one makes. I definitely felt pressure to be clever and entertaining but she took the pressure off by being so herself.

I don’t think I’m doing it justice, the fantastic experience of meeting S@L in person. She flatters me to no end on her blog, and I humbly protest. The stuff about my family, though, that stuff is all true.

In other news, I’ve had more time to surf the web and the blogosphere (I’m starting to hate that word, actually, so I may never use it again) and I am discovering that there are sites that will pay you to blog if you are any good. Why am I always the last to know about these things? Oh, maybe because I never have time to surf the web. But really, I am often on the late end of any trend, as I noted in my very first post.

That brings me to a confession of sorts. Lately I have been thinking that everyone and their mother has a blog now. Literally! A year ago I would have to explain to a lot of people what a blog is when I told them that I had one. Now it’s the in thing to have, along with a Blue Tooth headset for your wireless phone. Sorry, but I’m not jumping on that bandwagon anytime soon. I just don’t want to look like someone in a boy band all day long. Anyway, the whole blogging thing used to feel like a secret society and now it’s gone all Top 40 and Wal-Mart. Kind of sad, isn’t it?

Hope you are having a great visit with your family. Gotta love a man who is a firefighter and an actor! And I must be even more out of the loop than you, for I never even heard of that headset thingey for your phone before (I’m VERY technologically inept!)

There’s a woman who attends the PTA board meetings with me and she never EVER takes off the Blue Tooth. I think she just enjoys looking busy, but you never know if she’s talking to you or to someone on the phone.
Blogging….yeah…there a lot of us out there but good writing separates the wheat from the chaff.

Every one and their mother may have a blog – but they cannot all write eloquently or comment intelegently. You know the old saying about oppinions being like assholes? Everyone has one and most of them stink. Well blogs are like that too.
The cool thing is the comunity of blogs we seem to be part of has a much higher than average proportion of non-stinky assholes… I mean, blogs. And that community still has the feeling of a secret society at large in the world.
And I am boycotting that word, too.
