My new Mac finally showed its true colors this morning.
I bought it several weeks ago on a Sunday. The whole family went to the Apple store at the Northridge mall. I marched right up to the counter and told the staff what I wanted, and they sent a salesman out to help me. He kept saying “Are you sure?” and trying to interest me in other things, but no, I was sure.
I was so excited I took a picture of him:

By the time we all got home and settled in I was exhausted and I didn’t want to introduce myself to my new lover with flagging energy. I waited a few days until we had some time alone together. I took it slow.
The sort of sad thing is that I had the old Sony Vaio laptop and the MacBook Pro set up right next to each other for a few weeks.

Without my Office software or Quicken, I was a bit hampered. I love the Mac for speed and prettiness, and the kids love it when I video them with the funny filters:
But for day to day functionality, I still needed the PC. I finally ordered software that will allow me to run Windows applications on the Mac, and that is coming.
But just now, I witnessed how this Mac will make everything better. Still at the tail end of our real estate transactions, I had to scan 20 pages of a signed contract to e-mail to our mortgage professional. This computer performed with lightning speed, getting a reaction out of my printer that I have never seen. What would have taken me an hour with the PC just took me five minutes. BAM! There’s 55 minutes of productivity time right there.
Now I just need a job that will pay me $100/hour, and this baby will pay for itself in no time.
*I paid for this myself with my own money. Not many bloggers are getting new Apple products for free. Well, maybe that Gizmodo guy. Not me.
**So far I’ve compared this computer to a baby and a lover. That’s kind of creepy – I guess I should just pick one. I’ll go with lover, because I like to stroke it while I’m holding it. Rowr. I won’t call it “Georgia,” then. What should I name it?

How about Lulu? or Bessie (my grandmother) or Clarabell (a great grandmother).
That’s not very hot, Mom. I was thinking along the lines of Antonio or Suave.
That is not Brian the Apple guy- it is Todd. Two weeks ago he sold me my PC. What is up with that. 😉

i missed this when it first got posted. may i say, congrats on the wise choice! i think i noodged you a bit about going Mac; glad to see you did it.
when i bought my MBP last year, i spent $79 for iWork. i could have kept using OpenOffice/NeoOffice, good open sources versions of Office, but i wanted the products that were built for the Mac (esp Keynote, which i have yet to use). OO/NO are excellent alternatives to Office: they are free, they do virtually everything Office does, compatible documents, etc. iWorks has a learning curve, but i am really getting to enjoy them.
the software you ABSOLUTELY MUST GET THERE IS NO QUESTION ABOUT THIS is Scrivener (http://literatureandlatte.com/). this was created by Keith, in Cornwall, England (near where i lived in the 70s); he is a writer who could not find the writing software he wanted, so he learned to code in Mac and built it himself. it’s an incredible program, one i am still learning to use for increased productivity & creativity. i would dump almost every other program i use for Scrivener; it is far & away my #1 most valuable piece of software. as far & away #1 as are the Dodgers, Jimmy Buffett, my granddaughter & fresh grilled salmon.
